Appleseed
Center for Law & Justice
Oklahoma Appleseed is a fiscally sponsored non-profit organization that fights for justice and opportunity for all Oklahomans. We approach big issues--like Criminal & Juvenile Justice, Education Justice, and Election Justice--by tackling their root causes. We take our work wherever we believe we can do the most good, whether that’s in the courthouse, at the Capitol, or in the community.
We are part of the Appleseed Network with justice centers in 17 states and Mexico.
AREAS OF FOCUS
Criminal & Juvenile Justice
Our team began OK Appleseed in 2022 with the belief that Oklahoma can become a more just and fair society. Since we launched we have uncovered truths about the system we couldn't have imagined, and worked to right decade old wrongs.
Education Justice
Public education is the bedrock of our democracy. If we don't have citizens that are educated enough participate in our democracy, then all is lost. The reality is that 15,6% of Oklahomans live below the poverty line. We have to ensure they have free, fair, reasonable access to good education.
ELECtiON Justice
Oklahomans have a comparatively low voter turnout, and many Oklahomans aren't sure if they're eligible to vote due to old felony convictions. We're launching a landscape analysis of election laws and working with advocates in the space to understand and bring the most value to working in elections and election law.
